Nagpur: After examining CCTV footages, DCP Zone II Sanjay Latkar said that no shots were fired at an eatery on Residency Road, Sadar, on Sunday night. He claimed that it was just a clash between drunk youths and two waiters during which some glass panes were broken. “A group of six youths had picked up a quarrel with the waiters and security guard of the eatery at midnight.
The CCTV footages has clearly recorded everything,” said Latkar.
The alleged firing rumours at the restaurant had sent Latkar and Sadar police station officials into a tizzy. They had been scrutinizing CCTV footages since Sunday night to find the truth behind the incident. Different claims made by people who were in the vicinity had confused the cops.
On Sunday evening, some people claimed that they had heard the sound of four gun shots and then called up the control room. DCP Deepali Masirkar, who was on a night round, said that the people might have confused the cracking sound of the glass with gunshots.
Masirkar said that a group of youths were trying to enter the restaurant when it was set to close for the night. The guards did not allow to enter and the angry youths resorted to stone pelting.
After preliminary investigations, Sadar police have booked the unidentified youths for rioting.
DCP Sanjay Latkar said the cops even went through CCTV footages of neighbouring shops but found nothing to suggest shooting had taken place.
